2025  VIDEO TRYOUT MATERIAL 

TRYOUTS – ROUND 1

Video Submission on or before March 8th, 2025 (morganstatecheer@gmail.com)

ONE highlight video featuring the athlete performing their highest skill level in each requirement category (tumbling, jumps, stunting, performing).  After review of all videos, those selected to Tryout Finals will receive an invitation.

Jumps: 

Left and Right Hurdler, Toe Touch, DoubleToe Touch, Pike

Jumps are expected to include pointed toes, proper form, and exceptional height.

Tumbling:  (MANDATORY)

Minimum Standing Tumbling:  Back Handspring or Toe Touch Back Handspring. (stand to the side facing the left)

Preferred:  Standing Tuck, Toe Touch Tuck

Minimum Running Tumbling: two or more consecutive back handsprings.

Preferred Running Tumbling: Tuck Pass or Higher Passes

COMPETITION TEAM:

Standing Tumbling:  Two Toe Touches to a Tuck.  Preferred:  Standing Two BH to a Layout/Full

Running Tumbling:  a Pass with a Layout, Step Out, or Full

​

All MSU Cheerleaders must cheer at games.

Those not willing or able to pick up cheers and dances during tryouts may experience difficulty being selected to the team.

 

Stunting:

Main - Must be able to hold a major portion of a partner stunt.

Side - Must be able to support the main using proper technique and strength

Back - Must act as a brace for the flier while offering support to the main and side.

Top/Flyer - Must be able to balance in the air while utilizing proper technique and showing above average flexibility.

 Larger/taller flyers be prepared to stunt at a different position. We will move you to another position if needed.

 Minimum:  Prep Double, Arabesque Full Down and at least (3) One Leg Body Position, Walk In, Toss Up 

Preferred:  Switch Ups, Full ups, Cartwheel Up, Back Handspring Up​​

IN PERSON TRYOUTS

All of the above requirements in addition to Cheers/Motions/Dancing

Applicants should be prepared to pick up a fast paced choreographed dance quickly.  Looking for real show stoppers!

Mastering the motions tightly will earn the highest points at tryouts. Words need to be cheered versus spoken.

 

Overall Cheerleader Image:

Poise, Pep, Confidence, Athleticism, Smiles, Fitness, Voice Projection, and Appearance

 (correct attire, neatly dressed, properly fitted attire, appropriate hair style, little or no visible tattoos are preferred).

Be prepared for a brief interview. This interview may determine squad placement.

An MSU admissions office application should be on record at the time of tryouts.

A liability waiver form should be completed by a parent if the applicant is under the age of 18 prior to trying out.

 

FINAL CUTS – APRIL 18th & 19th – IN PERSON TRYOUTS!!!!!  Invitation Only!

April 18th Attire – Black Sports Bra and Black Shorts

April 19th - APPLICANTS MUST WEAR ORANGE and BLUE ONLY FOR FINAL CUTS. 

Failure to wear these colors will result in a deduction to your score.

Full game day makeup.  For MSU Cheer Bears, less is best!  Wear a shade of red lipstick complimentary to your complexion.

No eye gliter. NO EXCESSIVE LASHES!  We prefer a more natural look.

NO JEWELRY OR SPACERS ARE PERMITTED AT TRYOUTS!  No Band-Aids can be used to cover piercings/tattoos.

We are looking for the total package. We need enthusiastic, hard-working athletes with charisma, courage, crowd appeal & and cooperative attitudes. Pep, confidence, and showmanship are scored accordingly.

Please do not be expect to receive a spot during the tumbling portion of tryouts.

This means that if you do not have the required skill, please do not attempt to perform it on videos or in person.
